Kayra's, or K, as she is more commonly known as, wasn't born to a family with a trade, if it could be called that, most wouldn't have been proud to mention. She was born as the only daughter and heir to Lira and Zander Eno, who method of earning income was to hire out girls to the locals for 'services rendered.' To state it in simpler terms, K was the daughter of brothel owners. Her parents are not ashamed of this fact, nor have they raised K to be so either. Because, as they have told her, as there are all different kinds of people in the world, so can the same type of business be run in different ways.

When Kayra was born, her parents couldn't say that they were quite expecting it, but that they would have never given her up, no matter what the circumstances. Still, upon discovering her gender and knowing just what it was that they did for a living posed a bit of a problem. Her parents' solution to keep their daughter from being mistaken for one of their girls was to dress Kayra as a boy during the hours when their store was open.

And so Kayra grew up. During the hours that her parents store was open, she wore pants and acted like a boy, bring treated as such by everyone she came in contact with, and behaving in a manner that was fit for one. She was also educated as one, Zander going out and teaching her the books and how to deal with the people to came to hire out one of the girls. But during the closing hours and known only to Kayra's parents and their girls, Kayra was a girl and was treated as such. Being taught simple things such as basic cooking and mending skills. And if her parents could manage it, Kayra would be forced into skirts, though she was rather clumsy in them due to unfamiliarity.

On the day that Kayra's mage test was to be due, her parents thought nothing of it. There hadn't been magic in either of their families for ages, least none that they could recall. So they paid it no heed, not expecting in the least for Kayra to actually prove to have the abilities. It was Kayra's mother, in the end, who made for the final decision to push Kayra to attend Everthorne. When Kayra asked her why, Lira said that if K passed, she'd be able to make a difference in people's lives the same way that her parents did, taking in girls off the street and giving them a home and family, despite what they might do for a living. Kayra could just use this as a way to make her own path.

Being treated as both a boy and a girl has left K a bit confused as to how she should act in different situations. She's clumsy and awkward in skirts, causing her to become shy and quiet, seeking her own company instead, thinking that kind of behavior was fitting for a girl. However, when she's dressed in pants, K becomes outgoing and curious. She will voice her opinions and ask questions, sometimes saying things before she thinks, becoming reckless to avoid anyone from connecting the two sides of her personality.

Since coming to Everthorne, K is trying to find a balance between her two personalities. At the heart of it all, Kayra is kind and protective, her first impulse to go out and help anyone who seems to be in need of help. She is a little nervous about who to trust, even though her biggest secret doesn't need to remain so any longer. She doesn't lose her temper easily, but the only thing that can get her riled up rather quickly is anyone who looks down on people simply because of what they had heard that type of person would be like. She isn't the kind to plan a social event or a get-together with anyone, but if invited, she won't be one to turn them down

Kayra has been described as either a very pretty boy or a rather boyish looking girl. Lira says that if she were to grow out her hair a little, she could pass easily for a lady. K nods and doesn't answer either way, but she keeps a hair ribbon with her even as she goes and beats up the boys who dare to pick on her parents' girls. Her looks are something K thinks about very little, despite the wealth of knowledge she might have picked up from all the other girls at the brothel.
